Please inform me where in the Quran or Hadith the above saying is. I think this is the very message we need to send to Islamic Fundamentalists!

True. But in being politically correct, we must not, for fear of being labeled a fanatic, shy away from expressing our understanding of what we see. I don't belong to any religion. But Jesus comes through to me as a man who preached peace, both within and without. Unfortunately, Churches took charge of his teachings and came with the theory that Jesus is the only salvation for mankind. Mohammad's teachings were not distorted by any organization. When Mohammad put his teachings into practice, the first casualty was the temple in Mecca, which he captured, destroying the idols therein and converting it into a mosque. Therefore Mohammad does not come through to me as a man who preached peace, either within or without. Would you classify me as a fanatic?

Hey there.

The quote, "Beware of extremism in religion, since those before you were only destroyed by extremism", is actually not from the Koran. It is from the second source of Islamic law, namely the prophet Muhammad's Sunnah, i.e. this is a transmitted hadith (tradition).

This particular tradition can be located in authentic hadith collections such as Sunan Nasa'i and Musnad Ahmad, according to the trustworthy--and traditional-- Islamic site SunniPath.com.

Peace,
Ib.
